Low Carb Bread

Since most low carb diets are devoid of bread and make it public enemy number one, you may be skeptical of low carb bread. Before you dismiss it, try it.

Jumping on the Low Carb Bandwagon
Bread manufacturers are feeling the pinch of lost sales due to so many people trying a low carb diet. To try to stay in the game, many are developing low carb bread. Some manufacturers of low carb bread include Akins and South Beach, but Oorwheat is in the game too. We had our testers try Sara Lee's low carb bread and this is what they had to say:

"I like the taste. It was not at all what I expected. It was actually good!" - Jenny

"I thought it would be small and thin, but it was actually regular size bread. And it was satisfying!" - Jared

"I liked it, but it spoiled rather quickly. Other than that it was great!" - Wanda

Here are the carb counts on various brands of low carb bread:

Nature's Own - 5 grams
Sara Lee - 9 grams
Atkins - 5 grams

Compare this to 15 grams of carbs per slice for regular white bread and 13 for wheat and you'll see that the carb reduction is significant. Granted, you probably won't try this during the first two weeks of your low carb since you only get 20 grams of carbs a day. Even when you get 40-60 grams a day, you might only want one slice. It will depend on what else you're eating that day.

The nice thing about it is that low carb bread is tasty. To make it last longer, put it in an airtight container and refrigerate it (especially if you live in an area with a lot of humidity). You might find it will fit nicely into your low carb diet regime.
